I want to learn Japanese because I am currently a graduate student in East Asian Studies, and one of my research interests is in contemporary Taiwanese and Japanese film and media. Among Japanese directors and filmmakers, I especially enjoy the works of Satoshi Kon and Hirokazu Kore-eda.

I think those are excellent reasons to learn Japanese. If you ever have a chance to visit Japan, I hope you'll get some tickets to the Ghibli Museum. You have to book them far in advance, but it would be a great place to see some of the most intimate parts of the producer's work!
サラさん、どうも。ジブリびじゅつかんへ いきましたか？I also heard the museum is great, but the last time I visited they were fully booked for the next two months... which makes me want to go even more now.
